Self-Care : Exercise
What does self-care mean to you? There are a lot of ways one can define self-care, it can be eating your favorite food, watching a movie or show you love, playing with your pet, or simply anything that makes you feel good and happy. One of my favorite self-care is to exercise because not only does it help your mental health, it also helps your physical health. Exercising can relieve stress, improve mood by releasing dopamine, and overall helps people stay healthy. I will be offering some insight into my workout routines to motivate you to include exercise to your daily routine.
First thing I do when I get inside the gym is stretch. I stretch my legs, arms, neck, and back. A good stretch will set you up for a good workout. Second thing I do is cardio for about five minutes. If you want to lose weight increase your cardio time. Third thing I do is decide on what I want to work on that day, whether it will be legs and abs or arms and back. If I do legs and abs that day, I do 4 sets of 10 reps in each machine I do. The machines I like to do for legs are leg press, hip abductor, leg curls, and the glute kickback machine and leg extensions. For abs I like to start by doing a 1 minute plank, then go to the pull up bar and do 3 sets of 20 reps of hanging leg raise. If I do arms and back that day, I do 4 sets of 10 reps in each machine I do. The machines I like to do for my arms and back are the rowing machine, the shoulder press machine, the lat pull down, and the cable tricep bar.
This is my workout routine and I hope it helps give you an idea of what to do when going to the gym. Try to have fun and also take your time with each machine to get the right form. In order for you to see results you have to be consistent and realize that progress takes time.
