pets and happiness

Thinking about adding a furry or feathered member to your family? Pets can provide perks no matter what your age. Maybe that’s why 62% of households in the U.S. already have one.

it’s true the care and feeding of a dog, cat, or even a goldfish can cost money and time two things families are always short on. But the unconditional love and boost to your well-being that a pet can bring may well be worth your investment.
High levels of cholesterol and triglycerides can up your risk of heart disease, but owning a cat or dog can lower both, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Owning a cat or dog can also increase your chances of surviving a heart attack.
Playing with your pet increases the levels of the feel-good chemicals serotonin and dopamine in your brain. Maybe that’s why people recover from a stressful situation more quickly when they’re with their pets than with their partners or friends, a study done by the National Institutes of Health found.
Dogs, like babies, are conversation starters. On walks, you’re bound to stop for a chat or two with other dog owners.
Pets also give you the chance to meet like-minded owners at the vet, pet store, or training classes. There’s even a chance to connect online, where you can find forums and Facebook fan pages devoted to individual dog and cat breeds.
You can’t be a couch potato when you have a dog. Walking a dog regularly means you’re less likely to be obese and more likely to be physically active, the NIH has found.
The benefits continue to pay off as you age. One sponsored study followed 2,500 adults, 71 to 82 years old. The result: Those who took their dogs out regularly had more physical stamina they walked faster and for longer periods of time and had more mobility inside the house.
Another plus All that time outdoors increases your vitamin D levels and helps keep your bones strong. Not into dogs? Kitties need exercise, too, so grab a cat toy and have fun.
People may need people to live a richer life, but pets can provide many of the same perks, according to a study published by the journal of personality and social psychology.
Pet owners had greater self-esteem and were better able to bounce back from rejection, the study found. Other studies have found that a pet can be a child’s best buddy and help kids develop empathy.
Of course, not everyone is cut out to be pet owner. If you feel you can’t spare the time or funds, reap the rewards of pet ownership by fostering a rescued animal or by volunteering at a shelter.
You’ll be helping animals in need and finding a sense of purpose in the process and that’s a win-win for everyone

Self-care and Happiness: Family

Self-care and Happiness: Family

  • What is self-care?
Have you paid it forward to yourself? Self-care is the key to living a balanced life. Self-care is an activity that people do in order to take care of ourselves. It takes care of our mental, emotional and physical health. Most importantly it brings you happiness. Although it can sound very simple to do, most people often overlook these activities, which lead to having trouble functioning mentally, emotionally, and physically. By practicing self-care, you can take care and honor your body, mind, and spirit in a way that activates your best self. Many people confuse what self-care is and is not. Self-care is not something that we force ourselves to do or something that we do not enjoy doing; self-care is something that refuels us, rather than takes from us. Also, people sometimes think of self-care as a selfish act. On the contrary, it is not selfish because if we are not mentally, emotionally, or physically healthy we are not able to help others that we love or need to take care of.

  • What is Happiness?
Happiness is defined as a state of feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. It plays a very important role in our lives and can have an impact on the ways that we live our lives. That is why it is important to practice self-care activities in order to be happy and live our lives happy.

  • How to start self-care activities?
There are many ways that you can start and commit to self-care activities.
  1. It is important to stick to your basic rhythm and routines.
  2. Self-care needs to be something that you plan, rather than something that happens all of a sudden. It is an active choice, and you must treat it as one. A way to commit to self-care activities, add them to your calendar, tell people about it makes it more of a commitment, and most importantly, look for opportunities to practice them.
  3. Last and most important, if you do not see something as self-care or do not do something in order to take care of yourself, it will not work as self-care. Know what you do and why you do it.

  • Basic self-care activities that people can practice:
There are many activities you can do to practice self-care, here are some that you can exercise into your daily lifestyle:
1.   Eating Healthier: Eating healthier on a daily basis can benefit you in many ways, mostly physically. Instead of eating fattening foods that you would usually eat, eat something healthier. For example, instead of eating a bag of chips as a snack, have some fruit. It may be hard at first, but if you can make a habit out of it, you can benefit greatly.
2.   Getting Enough Sleep: Getting enough sleep is very important. By getting enough sleep you are able to be active throughout the day. Adults usually need to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night.
3.   Exercise: Although many people may not realize it, exercise does not only benefit your physical health, but it can also benefit your emotional health. Exercise increases our serotonin level, which leads to improved moods and energy. However, if you are using exercise as a self-care activity it should be something that you like to do; for example, I like playing basketball, so that is what I would use as a self-care activity for exercise.
4.   Relaxation Exercises: You can use relaxation exercises to practice self-care. You can also use meditation as a relaxation exercise. This can be done at any time of the day.
5.   Relaxing Activity: Whether it is going for a walk, or just winding down, take at least 30 minutes in your day to do something relaxing.
6.   Pleasurable Activity: Try and do something pleasurable every day, something that you enjoy doing. Watching a movie, cooking, or even going out with your friends can be considered a pleasurable activity.
7.    Laugh: Make sure to laugh! Laughing is great for your heart, as well as, your emotions.
8.    Spend Time with your FAMILY: Spending time with your loved ones is an amazing way to benefit your self-care. Spending time with your family does not only benefit you, but it benefits everyone in the family. Love and happiness are the most important parts of self-care.

  • Self-care for Families:
Being a parent is very hard work, therefore, without consistent self-care parents can easily and quickly burn out. If someone is stressed out in the family for not consistently giving themselves self-care, it can make things hard for everyone. Making self-care a priority can benefit everyone in the family, not just yourself. Always think about the oxygen mask analogy that you hear when you go on a plane. When you go on a plane and they are going over the safety procedures, they tell you to put your oxygen mask first before helping your children or others. Why? They say that because if you are not oxygenated and something happens to you, you will not be able to aid or care for your child or loved one. It goes the same way with self-care, if you are not mentally, physically, or emotionally healthy, it is hard to aid or care for your children or loved ones. Therefore, it is extremely important if you are part of a family that you practice self-care on a daily basis.

  • In what ways can self-care benefit a family?

Self- care can benefit your family in many ways. It can give you a more happy time with the family. You are able to be better at tasks that involve helping others in the family, for example, if someone in your family is ill and you are healthy, you will be able to give them all the care and aid they need. You are able to enjoy the time you spend with your family without being stressed. Most importantly you are more physically, mentally, and emotionally able to deal with life’s pressures and stresses.

Don't. worry be happy

There are many things in life that can bring someone happiness. Family, friends, pets, even going
to the gym. Here are a couple of random things that can bring happiness in their day.

Singing in the car
Singing in the car, everyone does it. When your song comes on it is almost impossible not to belt
out the words and sing along. Getting caught singing in the car or catching someone singing in
the car will immediately put a smile on your face.

Dancing when no one is watching
Dancing shows so much expression and you can really start moving when you are alone and
carefree. Blocking out surrounding sound and being in the moment, what’s better than that?

A random act of kindness
Things like paying for someone’s coffee, or helping a stranger carry heavy bags. It is so easy to
do and it provides you with a happy feeling throughout the rest of your day. Even witnessing
someone else doing a good deed can give you a feeling of joy.

Decorating for holidays
The warmth and coziness that happens when you redecorate your home for the holidays is such a
nice feeling. It is a simple yet effective way to bring some happiness into your home and into
your life! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

There are times where it may be difficult to find happiness in the situation you may be in; you
may be in a rough place at work or your relationship might not be the same anymore. The worst
thing you could do in that moment is think negative thoughts, it will just make the situation
worse. Get up on your feet and find something to do that will clear your head from all the chaos.
One thing most of us want to achieve is success; but success and happiness together is the tricky
part. Usually, we spend more of our time steeped in negative emotions than we do in the positive
ones. From our relationships, to our finances, our careers, our health, and our goals, we often
can’t seem to overcome the stress associated with everyday concerns. Gratitude, setting smart
goals, having a routine, having tasks, focusing on your health, and managing your time are
different ways to tie happiness and success into one.

School and Self - Care

Hoari Trujillo

School & Self-Care

School and self-care both are very important things to everyone. But how they work with each other to

make you happy is incredible. Along with it being one of the most important key factors of the human

body it also works out your brain. Believe it or not, there was no school you wouldn't have much to do

all day that actually gets you to think about something and something that teaches you a skill as well.

This would be you without school.

School does a lot of things besides working out your brain, stressing you out and giving you a lot of

headaches.

School

Let's start by talking about school. While school might be the most annoying thing possible that can

exist it really does make a huge impact on your health. When you come to think about it school really

does have a lot of benefits. For starters it makes you wake up early which is always good. If you're

wondering why well, it's because when you wake up early not only will you have more time during

the day but you also have the chance to be able to experience more. School also allows you to expand

your mind. It does this by making you constantly think. The brain is like a muscle. When you go to the

gym you workout your muscles to get them big correct?  Well, the brain works directly the same way

therefore when you are constantly thinking it makes your brain workout which is healthy for your crit

- ical thinking. This is just two ways that school is beneficial there are many and a lot of ways that it

can impact your life and health in a positive way. Another way that school is positive is by it making

you network and talk to other people as well as being able to let you talk and make new friends that

might need your help one day or you might need them one day you never know.

Self-Care

Self Care is very important. Self - Care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-

being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. Meaning that if you are not happy you are doing

something wrong in regards to having self-care. Stuff that comes into the role of self-care are the following

Happiness, School, Excercise, Diet, Sleep, and much other stuff. In this blog, we only talk  about the importance of

school its benefits. Below I will be putting some tips on how to get better habits to be able to have more self-care

for yourself because it's really important.

.1. Make sleep part of your self-care routine.
2. Take care of yourself by taking care of your gut.
3.  Exercise daily as part of your self-care routine.
4.  Take a self-care trip.

Happiness

Happiness is another key factor that can really dictate what it is that you're going to be like during the
day as well as how you get happy is important. There's a lot of way's you can get happy it just matters
on the type of person that you are willing to be. For example to some people being with their family
means being happy. To others being in a party with their friends rather then baing with the family is
happiness to them. And for others learning new skills and new stuff and imediatly applying them
and seeing results is happiness to them.

School and Self-Care

Now both Self-care and School have a lot to do with each other. How? well because for

starters if you didn't have self-care you wouldn't  go to school cause you would not care for it

at all. Another reason is because of what school does to you like we discussed in the previous

paragraphs self-care has to do with more than just yourself  it has to do with the people around

you and what you do to your body. School helps you think about stuff which is part of self-care. and

besides that, it leads you towards getting paid a lot of money once you get out if you use it correctly.
